  • Class 3's exciting visit to Kelso Races

    Wed 08 May 2013
We met Grand National winning jockey Ryan Mania when we were again invited to Kelso races for a day of  fun practical maths activities on 8th May.
We have been invited to Kelso for many years now and the day is always very exciting as it  involves the children covering a wide range of maths activities.
Children measure the heights  and widths of the different types of  fences, work out the perimeter of the parade ring and also how many horses can walk around the ring.  The children have opportunities to weigh themselves in the weigh room as the jockeys do.  They also have an opportunity to see what jockeys wear and to try on the colourful symmetrical silk tunics worn by the jockeys. A favourite activity of the children is the very much looked forward to activity of them running the last furlong of the race course.  The children watch horses as they arrive at Kelso and see a horse's passport.  Later they look at the brushed patterns on the horses' backs as they walk around the parade ground. Finally they are able to see a few of the races.  On this visit we were fortunate to meet Ryan Mania who was this year's winning jockey at the Grand National.  Ryan spent time talking informally to the children and telling them about his job.

  • 'Prickly Hay' Christmas Performance

    Fri 14 Dec 2012
Our Christmas performance of 'Prickly Hay' this year was a tribute to the hard work put in by both children and staff to make sure we could go ahead with the Play. The winter virus which is affecting the whole country meant that we never had the same children at any practice we had. This being the case we decided to only have one performance instead of the scheduled two and to just go with the children who were at school on that day. So on Tuesday 11th December we practised in the morning, had a dress rehearsal in the afternoon and performed the play at 6pm that evening. That day will be a memorable one for everyone involved and the children really rose to the occasion, with a full house of parents and friends in the evening giving the children a huge round of applause in appreciation. We held a raffle on the door and raised £ 237.00.
  • Christmas Crafts and Bingo Night

    Fri 07 Dec 2012
We held our Christmas crafts and Bingo night in the Main School Hall on Friday 7th December. It was very successful and despite many of our school community being affected by the winter virus lots of children and parents turned out to support us. The children have been making Christmas Crafts over the past few weeks and were very proud to seel them to their parents. On the night we raised        £ 524.75, which on a freezing winter's night was excellent.

  • Children in Need Day

    Fri 16 Nov 2012
For Children in Need Day this year we asked that everyone come to school in their pyjamas or onesies and bring their teddy bear. The children all brought £1 to donate to the appeal. We also asked them to bring in any spare change so we all could spell out Children in Need on the hall floor and draw Pudsey. All through the day we had our usual lessons punctuated by music and dancing in the small hall. In the afternoon our friends from Busy Bees Nursery joined our Reception Class for some games, then Classes 2 and 3 had a short disco in the Hall. A busy funday was had by all and we raised £178.61, which has been paid into the appeal fund. Thank you to everyone who helped make this day a memorable one for our children.
  • Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes

    Wed 14 Nov 2012
We have had a really good response to our appeal for Christmas Shoe boxes to be sent to disadvantaged children abroad by the charity The Samaritan's Purse. The appeal is called Operation Christmas Child and our Parents and children have brought in shoeboxes packed with gifts for a child that probably would not receive anything at Christmas time. We have been told that our boxes this year went to Bosnia and Croatia.
