Art and Design the Seahouses Way

To cultivate an enthusiasm for lifelong learning through a curriculum which reflects our rural and coastal context, adapting to the needs of our children- locally, nationally and globally.

At Seahouses Primary school we facilitate creativity in all children by providing opportunities to express ideas. Our Art and Design curriculum is designed to engage, inspire and challenge pupils, whilst equipping them with the knowledge and skills to be able to experiment, invent and create their own works of art

As pupils progress, they gain a deeper understanding of how Art and Design reflects and shapes our local, national and global history, and how it contributes to the culture, creativity and wealth of our world. We want to equip our children with not only the minimum statutory requirements of the Art and Design National Curriculum but to prepare them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life.

We plan carefully so that our children use the local area as inspiration, to learn from other cultures and to respect diversity and have carefully selected a wide range of unique and diverse artists, craft makers and designers for children to study.

As a school we are a committed member to the NECCN (North East Creativity Collaborative Network) a project aimed at improving creativity in the classroom. We also work with the National Society for Education in Art and Design (NSEAD) to further support quality Art and Design, understanding in school and ensure that we remain fully up to date with the very best thought, evidence and pedagogy.
