11.11.24 How to Mummify a Tomato!

What an exciting day we had in class! This week, the children embarked on a fantastic adventure that combined their love for learning with a hands-on activity related to our Ancient Egyptian topic. We dove right into the intriguing world of mummification, but with a tasty twist – we mummified tomatoes!

The children were buzzing with enthusiasm as they learned how the ancient Egyptians preserved bodies for the afterlife. Armed with knowledge, they transformed plump tomatoes into 'mummies', replicating the techniques used thousands of years ago. We even discussed the significance of the materials and their roles in the mummification process, reinforcing our cross-curricular links between history and science!

After the tomatoes were expertly mummified, the next step was to write up their experiences. The children jumped into writing instructions in English,  detailing each step they took during the mummification process. Their creativity flourished as they expressed their excitement and the new knowledge they acquired.

Not only did we have fun, but the children also honed their writing skills while deepening their understanding of Ancient Egyptian practices.
