Aln Valley and Eshott Airfield Excursion
To kick off our topic work on transport, we visited Aln Valley Railey and Eshott Airfield!
We learnt about the 'Alnwick Line' and found out that within four years the track between Alnwick and Alnmouth will be re-built!
We saw engines and carriages that were over 100 years old and we compared them with modern day trains.
In the afternoon we travelled to Eshott Airfield where we were given a guided tour of the airfield and its hangars! When we arrived we met their hairy residents first - a group of Alpacas!
We are the first school to have visited here so we were very lucky to have been able to give the children such an invaluable experience. As well as various models and makes of aircraft the children were able to explore the inside of a tank and watch a multi-million pound helicopter land, refuel and then take off again.
We are very grateful to everyone at Aln Valley Railway and Eshott Airfield for giving us such a fantastic experience and bringing our learning to life!
