20.05.26 Come Dine & Read

We were delighted to welcome parents into school for our Come Dine and Read with Me event. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate reading together and to share some of the learning that takes place in Class 3.

We began by discussing the importance of reading and the impact it can have not only on children’s academic progress, but also on their future life opportunities as adults. Research shows that children who enjoy reading are more likely to have higher educational attainment and better future employment prospects. It was a powerful reminder that regular reading supports both achievement and long-term success.

Then we modelled a typical reading lesson using our class text, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. The lesson structure included recall of previous learning, vocabulary exploration, shared reading in different ways, such as reading with a partner, ‘readers’ theatre’ and ‘jump-in’ reading, followed by a range of comprehension questions designed to deepen understanding and encourage inference.

Afterwards, families had time to enjoy our fabulous library. As it was also our book fair, parents were able to browse a selection of books to buy or simply spend time reading from the wonderful range of texts available on our library shelves.

To finish, we enjoyed a delicious roast dinner prepared by Vicki, which provided the perfect end to a very special visit.

Thank you to all the parents who attended; we loved having you in school.
