  • Healthy Eating Week - 2021

    Wed 16 Jun 2021

    'Find the healthier you'

We have been exploring what is means to be 'healthy' for Healthy Eating Week. We immediately thought about fruit and vegetables but soon realised there is more to it than that.

We know that it is important to eat a variety of different foods, exercise and sleep well, all of which contribute to being healthy. We also regularly discuss what it means to have a healthy mind and practise strategies that promote a positive mental health.

We tried a variety of different fruits today, many of which some of us have never tried!

We have also been having a go at growing our own healthy foods such as potatoes, lettuce and tomatoes. Our potatoes should be ready to harvest just before we break up for summer.

  • Mental Health Awareness Week

    Wed 12 May 2021

This week we have joined the 'Mental Health Foundation's' initiative to help provide young people with the tools and knowledge to help manage their mental health. They aim to prompt people into thinking about those things in life which are important to their well-being.

From a research study taken place during the pandemic results showed going for walks outside was one of our top coping strategies and 45% of the study reported that being in green spaces had been vital for our mental health. Therefore the Foundation decided to make the theme of the week Nature.

We love being outdoors and exploring our local environment at Seahouses so we are loving this theme. We have taken part in mindfulness walks and activities that allow us to take the time to make a connection and recognise nature. We have discussed and shared our experiences of being outdoors and being with nature.

  • NSPCC Number Day - 2021

    Wed 12 May 2021

Last week we celebrated the NSPCC’s number day. We talked about the NSPCC and their role and how they rely heavily on people raising money. We also looked at what they use their money on and how they support children and young people in difficult/ challenging situations.

We took part in a range of number based activities this week to help our celebrations. We started by recognising that numbers can be fun with some maths games, We had an Icebox challenge: 10 mathematical problems were hidden around school. Each problem had an answer which helped open the 10 digit padlock. If successful the children opened the ice box and won an ice lolly! (They all did!) We had a Maths trail: the children had to solve given clues which lead to mathematical problems all around school. We Baked: children made number cookies following a given recipe. Finally to finish off our number day we held a ‘guess the number of sweets in the jar’ competition. We talked about what an estimate is and how we can make a sensible guess using our mathematical knowledge of numbers and their value. Well done to our winners!

  • Bikeability

    Wed 05 May 2021

We have had a great week with the 'Bikeability' team developing our cycling skills.  We found out that cycling is much more than just a physical activity it is also a key life skill that allowed us the opportunity to develop our social and thinking skills as well as skills in our core values - resilience, perseverance and independence.

  • National Superhero Day 2021

    Wed 28 Apr 2021

Today is National Superhero Day honouring all heroes, whether they are real or fictional. we have been learning about what it means to be a hero.
When we first started talking about Superheroes we were listing off fictional characters. We have since realised that we are so lucky to have real life superheroes who are there to help us. Click here to enjoy our video showing our appreciation to our real life superheroes.

  • Earth Day 2021

    Fri 23 Apr 2021

Key Stage 1 have been thinking and learning about Earth day. We discussed how our actions can harm our planet and that we are lucky to have such a beautiful planet. The children shared their ideas of how people can harm our planet. We decided to make a positive difference to our planet by doing a litter pick in our local area. We discussed the impact of litter on our planet and the animals that live on our planet. The children were so thoughtful and had a good understanding. We were saddened by the amount of litter, but we did our best to leave the green and park on James street looking tidy and also some of the surrounding streets.
Well done everyone, a great team effort by all!

  • Fresh Air Fridays - Key Stage 1

    Wed 21 Apr 2021

  • Wellbeing Wednesdays - Easter Holiday

    Wed 21 Apr 2021

Our Wellbeing Wednesday Club that ran in the Easter Holiday was a huge success, we had nearly the whole school turn up to spend time with their friends. The first Wednesday we managed to spend lots of time outdoors playing games because the weather was beautiful. The change in weather from the second week didn’t stop the fun however, we were able to use our brand new badminton and tennis nets and our brand new boxing equipment!

We had a busy first week back at school. ‘Topic Burst Presentations’ were prepared based on some of the lockdown learning. Everyone shared their learning with each other and created the presentations that everyone then went on to present to Mrs Allen. Mrs Allen was very impressed with the knowledge of the Great Fire of London, the understanding of electricity, the historical knowledge of Seahouses and the Mayan civilisation along with the scientific knowledge of flowering plants.
