March Women's History Month

Throughout March, our school has been celebrating Women’s History Month by recognising the incredible social, economic, and political achievements of women.

In Class 3, we turned our focus to a famous figure with local roots: the inspiring suffragette, Emily Davison. At a time when women in the UK were denied the right to vote, Emily’s actions were both bold and daring. From hiding overnight in a House of Commons cupboard to her tragic, final protest at the 1913 Epsom Derby, her actions forced the nation to confront the injustice of gender inequality.

We are particularly proud of Emily’s connection to Northumberland. Both of her parents were from Morpeth and Emily was buried at St. Mary’s Church in the town. If you’re ever in Morpeth, you could visit her sculpture in Carlisle Park—a tribute to her legacy and sacrifice. To celebrate her bravery and resilience, Class 3 created original artwork reflecting on the suffrage movement and how the struggle of women like Emily paved the way for the rights we hold today.
