27.01.26 Eco Project
Last week, we had the wonderful opportunity to participate in a fantastic eco-dyeing workshop. This marks the second year in a row that our children have enjoyed this creative experience, thanks to our partnership with Alnwick Garden and Duchess High School.
During the workshop, children developed their creative skills by exploring how natural materials can be transformed into beautiful art and textiles. They learned the importance of following instructions to plant their own Viola ‘Freckles’, ensuring the best conditions for germination and healthy growth.
The children used a mortar and pestle to crush natural materials, successfully extracting pigments to create concentrated dye liquids. They explored flower pressing by learning how to press flowers to investigate their colours. They also demonstrated their sewing skills by using a sewing machine to outline shapes inspired by nature.
The project will culminate in an exhibition at The Alnwick Garden in the summer, where the children’s work will be showcased alongside some GCSE Textiles work by Year 10 students. It was a fantastic day of learning, creativity, and fun, led by Miss Boe from the High School and Craig Ellis from Alnwick Garden.
