25.02.26 Oral Health

As part of our science and PSHCE curriculum the children in reception, year 1 and year 2 have been learning the importance of good oral health and how to look after their teeth and gums.

Some children were able to recognise that they could maybe do a little better with looking after their teeth, whereas others were able to recognise how well they looked after their teeth.

The children now know that if they want to keep their teeth and gums as healthy as possible they need to:

- brush their teeth twice a day for 2 minutes

- use a pea-sized amount of toothpaste

- spit the remaining toothpaste, do not rinse as this prevents the fluoride protecting the teeth

- avoid too many sugary snacks

- visit the dentist regularly (normally every 6 months)

- parents/ carers should supervise/ supervise tooth brushing until the child is at least 7 years old

The children had a good look in their mouths and counted how many teeth they have. Some children have gaps where teeth have fallen out and some were able to see their adult teeth growing in.

We are going to be looking at our brushing techniques in our next lesson to make sure we are cleaning each and every tooth!
