E-Safety
At Seahouses Primary School, we take online safety seriously. We believe that teaching children how to navigate the digital world safely is crucial in today's technologically advanced society. Our online safety curriculum is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills they need to stay safe online and make responsible choices. Our curriculum covers a range of important topics including:
- Online Privacy and Security
To protect our students' personal information, we educate them about the importance of online privacy and security. We explain the potential risks of sharing personal information online and teach them strategies to keep their data safe. We discuss strategies for creating strong passwords and explain how to use privacy settings on different platforms. We also emphasise the importance of reporting any suspicious or inappropriate online behaviour.
- Social Media Awareness
With the growing influence of social media, it is essential for students to understand how to use these platforms responsibly. We educate our students about the potential risks associated with social media, such as cyberbullying, online predators, and the impact of over-sharing personal information. Through real-life scenarios and interactive activities, we help our students develop critical thinking skills and make responsible choices online.
- Digital Footprint
Understanding the concept of a digital footprint is crucial for our students. We explain that everything they do online leaves a trace and can have potential consequences in the future. We encourage our students to think before they post, and we teach them about the importance of maintaining a positive digital identity.
- Online Communication
In the online world, effective and respectful communication is key. We teach our students how to communicate appropriately and respectfully online, emphasizing the importance of being kind, considerate, and empathetic towards others. We explore the potential consequences of cyberbullying and discuss healthy strategies for resolving conflicts online.
- Online Research and Critical Evaluation
With the vast amount of information available online, it is important for our students to develop research and critical evaluation skills. We teach them how to evaluate the credibility and reliability of online sources, encouraging them to question information and think critically.
We believe that online safety education is most effective when there is a strong partnership between the school and parents. Below you will find a list of linked websites which offer help and advice on how parents can support their children's online safety education. We would encourage you to explore these websites and familiarise yourself with the valuable information they offer. By working together, we can create a safer online environment for our children and empower them to make responsible choices.
