  • Savvy Surfers VR Experience!

    Sun 25 Mar 2018

At Seahouses Primary School we had an amazing opportunity to welcome a group of visitors into our year 6 class. Our visitors came to us from Bell View in Belford. We were approached by Bell View after they had read about our recent purchase of our Virtual Reality (VR) kit. They were interested in coming to Seahouses to learn more about how VR's work and how we use them in our learning. The Bell View group named the Savvy Surfers enjoy keeping their minds active by spending time learning and immersing themselves with new projects.

We often explain to children the benefits of learning from their elders, in this instance it was lovely to see children engaged and enthused talking to the Savvy Surfers and extended there world with new information.

"I thought that it was great that people were interested and wanted to expand their knowledge on the VR's" (Kate, Year 6 Pupil).

"It was interesting to see around the body. discovering problems and identifying healthy parts of the body." (Savvy Surfer Member).

"A very interesting afternoon - enjoyable and amazing. A lovely friendly atmosphere in the classroom and a lot of help to us all from the children." (Savvy Surfer Member).

  • #wouldntchangeathing - Down-syndrome Awareness

    Wed 21 Mar 2018

Today we celebrated the 21st World Down Syndrome Day by learning about how people are born with Down Syndrome, the impact it can have on their lives, also how we can help and some famous people.

We listend and joined in with 50 mothers and their 4 year old children with Down Syndrome lip syncing and performing Makaton to the tune of Christina Perri’s ‘A Thousand Years', which has gone viral around the world in the style of Carpool Karaoke.

Miss Naisbitt taught us how to spell our names using British sign language. We also learnt how to ask what is your name? and to reply with my name is.

Everyone from reception through to Year 6 joined in with signing and asked to learn more! Well done everyone for accepting and understanding that everyone is different, but that we all have a value.

  • Maths Workshop - March 2018

    Wed 21 Mar 2018

At Seahouses we love to have fun when learning maths. We experience our maths learning through problem solving, which enables us to apply our maths knowledge and understanding to real life situations. We have a real focus on Mathematical thinking and reasoning at Seahouses and we use a range of different tools and methods to help us.

We would like to thank everyone who was able to attend our maths workshop this morning, this was an opportunity for parents to see the different tools and methods we use for supporting children's learning. The children loved demonstrating  how they problem solve and how they approach challenging math calculations.
