14.10.22 Kielder Observatory and Planetarium

The children were lucky to have a visit from the Kielder observatory and planetarium today.

The children took part in a workshop about light and how light is made up and how it travels.

We then got to experience UV light and make our own bracelets with UV beads. When we went out into the sun at playtime the beads changed colour because of the UV rays. We learnt that UV rays can be harmful to our bodies which is why we use things like sun cream and sun hats to protect ourselves.

The children then got to go inside the planetarium where they sat under a night sky and learnt all about planets and stars.

It was a truly magnificent experience and we can't wait to refer back to this when we learn about space further on in the academic year.
